Happy Memorial Day!

Today, Riley got to go swimming for the first time ever! We took him over to Grandma and Grandpa's house, lathered him up in baby sunblock (got to protect that white, Irish skin!), got him dressed in his swim diapers and his cute little red bathing trunks...and then headed over to their community pool for a dip. Kim held Riley tightly and inched him into the pool, slowly. The water was cold! Riley let out a few wimpers and we could tell that he was very unsure of his new watery surroundings. He didn't cry, but he kept a steady grimace on his face until he got comfortable with the water temperature. Once he decided that he was OK and could relax...he unleashed the fury! He started flailing his little arms, splashing the surface of the water, putting on quite a show.

Then Kim and Grandma put him into his party float and he began kicking up a storm! He kicked so much he moved the float around the pool! The kid was crazy...he didn't care if he got splashed in his face or if he swallowed pool water. Riley is FEARLESS!

Bill, the "Water Hater," took tons of photos while standing on the side of the pool in his polo shirt, shorts, sneakers and white socks. It looks like Riley has inherited Kim's love of the water!

We let him stay in the pool for maybe 25 minutes or so, then we wrapped him up in a beach towel like a little baby burrito. Dada held onto him as he got more and more sleepy. We took him home and he took a cat nap...then he got up and ate like a pig! The sun and the water made him so hungry! We have found a way to drain his energy so he'll sleep through the night! He had a bath to wash off the sunblock and chlorine...and he was out for the night.

This experience was priceless. Seeing Riley love the water as much as I do...it melted my heart and made me so proud.
